The uses of silicon

The uses of silicon are as follows:

1. High purity monocrystalline silicon is an important semiconductor material. Doping trace amounts of IIIA group elements into monocrystalline silicon to form p-type silicon semiconductors; Add trace amounts of VA group elements to form n-type semiconductors. The combination of p-type and n-type semiconductors forms a p-n junction, which can be used to make solar cells and convert radiation energy into electrical energy.

It is a very promising material in the development of energy.

2. Metal ceramics, important materials for space navigation. Mixing and sintering ceramics and metals to produce metal ceramic composite materials, which are resistant to high temperatures, have high toughness, and can be cut. They not only inherit the advantages of metals and ceramics, but also make up for their inherent defects.

Can be applied to the manufacturing of military weapons.

3. Fiber optic communication, the latest modern means of communication. High transparency glass fibers can be drawn using pure silica. Laser can undergo countless total reflections in the path of fiberglass and transmit forward, replacing bulky cables.

Fiber optic communication has high capacity. A glass fiber as thin as a hair is not affected by electricity or magnetism, and is not afraid of eavesdropping. It has a high degree of confidentiality.

4. Silicon organic compounds with excellent performance. For example, silicone plastic is an excellent waterproof coating material. Spraying organic silicon on the walls of underground railways can solve the problem of water seepage once and for all. Applying a thin layer of organic silicone plastic on the surface of ancient artifacts and sculptures can prevent the growth of moss, resist wind, rain, and weathering.

5. Due to the unique structure of organic silicon, it combines the properties of both inorganic and organic materials. It has basic properties such as low surface tension, low viscosity temperature coefficient, high compressibility, and high gas permeability. It also has excellent characteristics such as high and low temperature resistance, electrical insulation, oxidation stability, weather resistance, flame retardancy, hydrophobicity, corrosion resistance, non-toxic and odorless, and physiological inertness.

Widely used in aerospace, electronics and electrical, construction, transportation, chemical, textile, food, light industry, medical and other industries, organic silicon is mainly used in sealing, bonding, lubrication, coating, surface activity, demolding, defoaming, foam suppression, waterproofing, moisture-proof, inert filling, etc.

6. Silicon can increase the hardness of plant stems, making it more difficult for pests to feed and digest. Although silicon is not an essential element in plant growth and development, it is also a chemical element necessary for plants to resist adversity and regulate relationships between plants and other organisms.
